Now taking orders for the July release!
This painting began as an experiment and turned into a permission slip.
During a live painting session, I was encouraged, half jokingly, to paint something unexpected. Skunks came up as wildly underrepresented in art, so I painted one. When it still felt unfinished, I leaned fully into the absurd and later added a disco ball and dance floor. At that point, the piece stopped asking for logic and started asking for honesty.
Funky Skunky is about not taking yourself too seriously. It's about existing exactly as you are, and about dancing anyway - especially when it makes no sense to anyone else. The sparkly glaze (far more visible in person than in photos) catches the light and adds to the absurdity of the scene.
This work isn’t polished or precious. It’s playful, a little unhinged, and unapologetically itself. And sometimes, that’s the most truthful thing a painting can be. Raw.
